Charles dreams of a different life. He hates his job and lives alone in a run down apartment. His only glimmer of hope is his new girlfriend, Olivia. But his life is thrown into chaos when his older brother Larry arrives on his doorstep. Homeless and battling addiction, Larry needs support on the road to recovery. But can Charles forgive him for his past sins? And will Olivia stick around to watch the chaos unfold?

 

Funny, dark and heartwarming, Charles and Larry is a deep dive into the meaning of family, forgiveness and hope.

Xavier Coy - Writer / Charles

Most recently Xavier has been writing for season two of Channel 10’s acclaimed television series ‘Five Bedrooms’. In 2017 he was awarded the Terracini Estate Residency for writing. Xavier’s writing credits also include 'Not Even God Can Save Us' (ACA), 'The World According To Jerry' (KXT Storytellers Festival), ‘Buried’ (The Old 505 Theatre), ‘Are You Listening Now?’ (The Old 505 Theatre), ‘Fighting’ (KXT Teethcutting), ‘Caught Out’ (Sydney Fringe Festival and Bondi Feast) which took out the NIDA Award for Best Writer at the Sydney Fringe Award & ‘Distorted’ (The Old 505 Theatre). Recent and exciting news sees ‘Caught Out’ being adapted into a musical format in collaboration with Squabbalogic Independent Musical Theatre Inc.

Xavier is Sydney based actor, graduating from ACA in 2017. In theatre he has been in ‘All The Rage’, Dir. Leland Kean, New Theatre’s ‘Harvest’ Dir. Lou Fischer, ‘Beast.Belly.Beast.’ Dir. Kim Hardwick & ‘The Removalists’ (New Theatre) Dir. Johann Walraven. He has also acted in his own plays which he has written ‘Smokin’ Joe’ Dir. Johann Walraven (The Old 505 Theatre), ‘Caught Out’ Dir. Xavier Coy (Sydney Fringe Festival & Bondi Feast), ‘Are You Listening Now?’ Dir. Ed Wightman (The Old 505 Theatre) and ‘Distorted’ Dir. Richard Hilliar (The Old 505 Theatre). Xavier will play Charlie in ‘Breathing Corpses’ at KXT in April. He has also featured in the short films ‘Gavin’, ‘The Burnt Cork’, ‘Suits’, ‘Bail’ and his own short film ‘Help’. In TV, Xavier has appeared in ‘Tough Nuts’ – Season 1 and 2 and ‘Doctor, Doctor’.

Adam Marks - Larry

Adam is a recent graduate from Waapa’s acting program where he played Allen Fitzgerald in The Blind Giant is Dancing, Egon Schiele in Self Portrait Masturbating and Vice President Dick Cheney in Stuff Happens. 
Since being back in Sydney he’s performed in the award winning production of Yellow Fact at KXT, Slaughterhouse at Belvoir St and toured a production of Puffs to Brisbane. He’s worked on the AFTRS short films Now, Then, After and Bottleneck and was in the SBS film Black Lips which premiered at Mardi Gras. Adam is a proud member of MEAA and loves patting all of the dogs.

Ana Thu Nguyen - Olivia

Ana is a Vietnamese Australian actress born in Galang, Indonesia. Her family migrated to Sydney once given refugee status, and has been based there ever since. Ana has a double degree in law and commerce, with a prior career in management consulting before venturing into the arts. Ana’s recent credits include an assassin in comedy feature film, The Spy Who Never Dies and an impoverished young mother in period psychological thriller, Nest, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Her stage credits include Subtlenuace's Simple Soul and Campion Decent's Baby X.

Jane Angharad - Director

Jane is an Actor, Director and Producer and co-founder of the independent theatre company Secret House. She graduated from Royal Holloway University of London with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Studies and from East 15 with an MA in Acting. She has a Post Grad. Cert. in Education from University College London. Theatre credits include Hush (New Ghosts Theatre Company - Producer) Iphigenia in Splott (New Ghosts Theatre Company  - Producer) Pomona (KXT- Actor/ Producer), Bird (Old Fitz - Director/ Producer) Crime and Punishment (Limelight - Actor/ Producer), The Seagull, Troilus and Cressida, The Winter’s Tale and Cymbeline (The Depot - Actor/ Producer), Blink (107 Projects - Actor/ Producer) and Habagat at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Actor / Producer)

Milly Grindrod - Stage Manager

A graduate of AFTT, Milly has previously worked on Secret House's The Seagull, Troilus & Cressida, Crime & Punishment and Joseph K, Redline Production's King Of Pigs, Dead Fly Production's The Scarecrow, Bard on the Beach's 2019 season, New Ghosts’ Iphigenia in Splott and Hush, Force Majeure’s The Last Season and Magic Mike Live Australia. Her music theatre credits include Muriel's Wedding (Global Creatures), Come From Away (New Theatrical), Billy Elliot (LWAA) and School of Rock (GWB Entertainment).

James Smithers - Production Designer

James has designed and built a number of sets for Secret House. He is also set builder and a designer for AFTT graduation productions. Recent work includes Pomona at KXT, Grain Store directed by Anthony Skuse, Joseph K directed by Sean O’riordan. Iphigenia In Splott for New Ghosts. As an actor James has appeared in many of Secret House‘s productions (recently Pomona, Crime and Punishment) he has also appeared in season 3 of AMC’s Preacher as Jesus De Sade.
 

Sophie Pekbilimli - Lighting Designer

Sophie graduated in 2010 from Newtown High School of the Performing arts. She has toured nationally and internationally with Lennon Through a Glass Onion as the LD. 2015 - 2020
Sophie has designed for Aerialize Theatre, The Pacific Opera, the Arts unit of NSW, City Recital Hall Presents, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Montague Basement, Brave New World, The House that Dan Built and New Ghosts Theatre Company.

Shereen Nand - Assistant Director /  Understudy

Shereen performed in short + sweet’s 2020 season “The happiest day of my life” written by Pete Malicki and was a finalist before the pandemic hit. Graduated from the Academy of film, theatre and television (2019) with credits including Natasha “Three sisters” directed by Anthony Skuse and performed at Belvoir Theatre. Shereen is currently studying a bachelor of design at UNSW
